CITY COUNCIL ACTIONS - CHESAPEAKE

The Chesapeake City Council met Tuesday and took the following actions, based on a report from the Office of the City Clerk. NOTE: After the first item, the next three items on rezoning applications were not approved for final action but were acknowledged with a vote 9-0 that they have been received in the Planning Department. Proposal

Request for appropriation ($1,147,745.00) of View Operating Funds - Department of Human Services/Social Services. Approved, 9-0.

Request by Great Bridge Swim & Racquet Club/Horton & Dodd for a rezoning of Property at 1200 Back Road from A-1 Agricultural District (6.74 ac)/R-15s Residential District (1.62 ac). Acknowledged, 9-0

Request by Douglas Talbot for a zoning reclassification for property on Dominion Boulevard from R-10s Single-family Residential to B-2 General Business District. Acknowledged, 9-0

Request by Robert S. Miller for a zoning reclassification of property at 209 S. Military Highway from B-3 Highway Business District to O & I Office and Institutional District. Acknowledged, 9-0

Refund of $24,043.67 to Revco Discount Drug Center Inc. for business license fee. Approved, 9-0.

Request for authority to submit a Litter Prevention and Recycling Grant Application to the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality - Department of Parks, Recreation and Building Maintenance. Approved, 9-0.

Request for authority to submit a Partners In Prevention Grant Application tothe Virginia Department of Health - Department of Human Services/Social Services. Approved, 9-0.

Request for appropriation ($79,704) for Manhole Rehabilitation Project - Department of Public Utilities. Approved, 9-0.

Consideration of a resolution supporting the request of the Tidewater Transportation District for funding by the United States Congress for the proposed Light Rail Project - Department of Public Works. Approved, 9-0.

Consideration of a resolution authorizing the city manager and city clerk to execute an agreement between the Commonwealth of Virginia, Department of Transportation and the city of Chesapeake for improvements to Churchland Boulevard within the city of Chesapeake - Department of Public Works. Approved, 9-0.

An ordinance to except daily rental vehicles from personal property tax classification in accordance with 1997 amendments to state law. Approved, 9-0.

An ordinance to provide for the assessment of penalties in cases where personal property tax returns are not filed on the date the return is due. Approved, 9-0.

A resolution authorizing the city attorney to institute condemnation proceedings against certain property owned by Katie Cooper, to be used for a right-of-way in connection with the construction and maintenance of the Oak Grove Connector Road Project. Approved, 9-0.

A resolution authorizing the city attorney to institute condemnation proceedings against certain property owned by Gordon Realty to be used for rights-of-way, sanitary sewer area, and landlocked residual in connection with the construction and maintenance of the Oak Grove Connector Road Project. Approved, 9-0.

A resolution authorizing the city attorney to institute condemnation proceedings against certain property owned by Thomas M. Tye and Julia D. Tye, tobe used for a right-of-way in connection with the construction and maintenance of the Oak Grove Connector Road Project. Approved, 9-0.

Consideration of a resolution approving the major design features of Battlefield Boulevard South/Route 168 south to the North Carolina line and authorizing the acquisition by purchase or condemnation of properties in furtherance of the projects - Department of Public Works. Approved, 9-0.

Consideration of an ordinance amending an ordinance providing for a Personnel Management System and Compensation Plan for the city of Chesapeake, which was adopted on July 12, 1994, Article 8 thereof, amending the schematic list of classes and assignment to salary range by making certain additions to class titles, making certain deletions to class titles, and making changes to certain pay ranges - Department of Personnel. Approved, 9-0.

An ordinance regarding to destroying or removing property and willful and malicious damage to or defacement of public or private buildings, walls, fences and other structures. Approved, 9-0.

A resolution authorizing the waiver of all purchase costs for the vacation ofrights-of-way in the Campostella Square area closed under ST.C-97-03. Approved, 9-0.
