MID-ATLANTIC FINANCIAL GROUP OPENS: Mid-Atlantic Financial Group has opened at 860 Greenbrier Circle, Suite 202. Nick Arcese was named branch manager/senior loan officer. He was a loan officer with American Home Funding. Cola Galvin was named a senior loan officer. She has 20 years of experience as a loan officer. Karen Barnard was named a loan officer. She has over eight years' experience in the real estate industry, most recently with Long & Foster. Diane Sawyer was appointed a loan processor. She was with Signet Mortgage for more than 13 years.

HAMPTON ROADS

SPRINTING INTO THE RECORD BOOKS? Radio Shack stores across the United States will close for 15 minutes Wednesday, as the chain celebrates its new partnership with Sprint. At 10:45 a.m., the stores will close and then re-open at 11 a.m., with separate Sprint stores within each site. By reopening more than 6,000 locations, Radio Shack also hopes to break the Guinness Book of World Records standard for store re-openings, a company spokesman said - if such a record exists.

HUGGINS-JONES JOINS PRACTICE: Dr. Dawn Huggins-Jones has joined the medical staff of Richard N. Valentine Jr. She has been in the health care field since 1981 and received her medical degree in obstetrics and gynecology from Hahnnemann Medical College and Hospital in Philadelphia. She was with Queens Long Island Medical Group in New York.

SEVEN-MEMBER MANAGEMENT TEAM NAMED AT DEALERSHIP: George Stedelbauer was named general manager of Pomoco Chrysler Plymouth of Newport News. Bill Aviles was named new cars sales manager; Bobby Bowen Jr., general service manager; Jonathan Evans, parts manager; Bill Price, business manager; Jerry Strickland, body shop manager, and Jack Trimble, office manager.

VIRGINIA

AMERICAN FILTRONA MERGES WITH COMPANY ON LONDON STOCK EXCHANGE: American Filtrona Corp. in Richmond said its shareholders approved the merger of American Filtrona with a wholly owned subsidiary of Bunzl plc, an international paper and plastics group quoted on the London Stock Exchange. Instructions on where shareholders should send share certificates in order to receive payment of the merger consideration will be mailed shortly.

MILLS CORP. DECLARES DIVIDEND: The Mills Corp. declared a cash dividend for the third quarter of 47.25 cents per common share payable Oct. 21, 1997, to shareholders of record on Oct. 1, 1997.
