Louise Blanchard Jones, 78, of Route 2, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 1997, in Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

Mrs. Jones was born in Gates County. The daughter of the late John C. and Mrs. Harriett Rountree Blanchard, she was a homemaker and had formerly served as her husband's bookkeeper in his grocery store and logging operations. The secretary and valedictorian of the Class of 1936, Sunbury High School, she was also a member of Gatesville Baptist Church.

Surviving are her husband of 55 years, Marvis G. Jones Sr.; a daughter, Norma Jones Reavis and her husband, J.D., of Virginia Beach; a son, Marvis G. Jones Jr. and his wife, Barbara, of Suffolk; two sisters, Hettie B. Corbett of Gatesville and Hazel B. Hurdle of Hertford; a grandson, John Christopher Reavis; her sister-in-law, Alice C. Blanchard of Atkinson, N.C. She was preceded in death by her children, Kim Blanchard Jones and twins, Harriett Beverly Jones and John Burton Jones.

A funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in Miller Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Blanchard Family Cemetery. Friends may join the family from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today in the funeral home and all other times at the residence.
