MISSING NORFOLK WOMAN'S CAR FOUND BY FBI IN FLORIDA

A missing Norfolk woman's car was found Tuesday by the FBI in Florida, and a male acquaintance of hers has been charged with stealing it. But there is still no word on the woman's whereabouts or fate.

Jack Lynn Autery, 42, of Norfolk, was arrested without incident about 2 p.m. in a motel room in Titusville, Fla., after FBI agents found Candace ``Candy'' Arnaud's missing 1989 metallic gold Ford Taurus there.

Autery was being held in the Titusville jail pending extradition to Virginia.

As for Arnaud: ``We don't know,'' said Bo McFarland, an FBI spokesman in Norfolk. ``We don't have any information on what has happened to her or where she might be.''

McFarland said the FBI is looking at the case as a ``possible kidnapping,'' but for now, she is listed as ``missing under suspicious circumstances.''

McFarland said he could not comment on what, if anything, Autery might have said about Arnaud's whereabouts.

Arnaud, 38, and the mother of two, was last seen leaving a friend's residence in the 600 block of Ingleside Road about 11 p.m. Sept. 17.

Arnaud is described as a white female, 5 feet, 4 inches tall, 130 pounds, with hazel eyes and shoulder-length frosted hair. She also has two tattoos: a cat's face on her chest and a lizard on her lower back. Family members said she was last seen wearing a brown paisley dress. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Line at 664-4040 or the FBI. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
