JOHN L. VAUGHAN

John Leroy Vaughan, 81, of the 1200 block of Hazel Ave., went to be with the Lord on Oct. 2, 1997, in Norfolk.

Born in Colonial Heights, Va., he had retired as a painter and grainer with Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 32 years. He was a member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church, Chesapeake, for 41 years, where he served as a deacon. Mr. Vaughan was an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Louise Vaughan; a daughter, Barbara Bonney of Chesapeake; two sons, Erwin Vaughan of Chesapeake and Gary Vaughan of Virginia Beach; a sister, Lois Brown, and brother, Earl Vaughan, both of Colonial Heights; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Rev. J. Leroy Vaughan of Virginia Beach.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Eastminster Presbyterian Church by the Revs. Robert Hobson and Dr. Ted Bashford. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today in Graham Funeral Home, South Norfolk Chapel, and at the residence at all other times.
