BEST FISH ACTION SEEN OFF HATTERAS

Wahoo fishing was great off Hatteras Tuesday. The best action was well south of the inlet. King mackerel fishing was fairly good and a few dolphin and blackfin tuna were taken. Two sailfish and a spearfish were released by the Citation.

Boaters in the Hatteras Inlet area landed bluefish, gray trout and speckled trout.

Blue water action was slow off Oregon Inlet, with scattered yellowfin tuna and king mackerel taken.

Inshore trolling off Oregon Inlet was fair, with albacore and a few small king mackerel landed.

The beautiful weather along the Dare coast Tuesday led to slow fishing on northern beach piers.

A 30-pound king mackerel was decked late Monday afternoon on Kitty Hawk Pier, but fishing Tuesday was poor. Lots of very small flounder were the only fish landed.

Anglers on Avalon Pier caught small flounder and a few spot off and on during the day.

Small flounder, puppy drum and a few small blues were taken on Nags Head Pier.

Jennette's Pier reported several keeper flounder, speckled trout and a few small puppy drum landed.

Fishermen on Outer Banks Pier caught a handful of small flounder and small pompano. Several undersized puppy drum were released.

Fishing was a bit better south of Oregon Inlet. A 17-pound king mackerel was taken on Rodanthe Pier, along with a few keeper Spanish mackerel, gray trout and flounder.

Avon Pier reported fairly good sea mullet and pompano action during the morning, but afternoon fishing was slow.

Some nice mullet, a few keeper flounder and an occasional sheepshead were landed on Frisco Pier.

Surf fishing along the northern beaches and around Oregon Inlet was somewhat slow Tuesday, with only a few bottom fish, flounder and a small bluefish taken.

A few bottom fish were landed in the surf from Rodanthe to Buxton.

Scattered gray trout, small flounder and small puppy drum were beached in the Cape Point area.

Large sea mullet, small pompano, scattered spot and a few flounder were landed by surfcasters from Ramp 55 to Hatteras Inlet.

The water temperature was 71 degrees Tuesday at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck, and 77 degrees at Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island.
