JAMES R. STEWART

James Robert Stewart, 86, of Route 1, Warren County, died Oct. 16, 1997, in Warren Hills Nursing Center.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Roanoke Rapids, a former mason in Norfolk and former resident of Chesapeake for 25 years. Mr. Stewart was a retired shipwright for the Norfolk Shipyard and a member of Centerville Baptist Church, Chesapeake. He was born Dec. 10, 1910, in Warren County, the son of the late James Davis Stewart and Elizabeth Rodwell Stewart.

Survivors include his wife, Clara Thorne Stewart of the home; a daughter, Bette S. Hamilton of Dana Point, Calif.; two sons, Benjamin Thorne Stewart of Raleigh and James Robert Stewart Jr. of Ringwood, N.J.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be at 3 p.m. today in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Roanoke Rapids, by Bishop William Garner. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Macon. Pallbearers will be Ed Bland, Ray Robinson, Danny Moss, George Conner, Mark Evans and W.C. Jones.
