The Portsmouth Police Department won an award for ``Best Appearing
City Police Cruiser'' at the seventh annual Firefighter and Public

Safety Parade held in Surry this month. The award had special

meaning to local officers because several of them served on a task

force in 1995 to design the logo they hoped would give higher

visibility to police vehicles. The police department liked the new

gold and red striped logo so much they have created shirts,
portfolios, hats and business cards to match.
