CHRISTOPHER S. BRITT

Christopher Shawn Britt, 16, a ninth grade student at Surry High School, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 1997, as a result of injuries received in a multi-car accident on U.S. Route 460 in Southampton County near Ivor.

A lifelong resident of Surry, Shawn formerly attended Faith Baptist Church, Waverly, and was an active member of the AWANA Junior Varsity Bible Club of Bacons Castle Baptist Church, Surry.

Shawn was an active, outgoing young man who loved his family, other people, animals and a variety of outdoor activities. He was an avid hunter as a member of Beechland Hunt Club. He had played football in the Surry Recreational League and loved playing basketball as well. He planned to play football for Surry High School in coming years. A skilled and enthusiastic horseman, he was a member of the Surry 4-H Club and the Norge Saddle Club of Williamsburg. He spent many hours riding horses across the state of Virginia. He was employed by Billy and Wayne Epps at Epps Dairy Farm, Bacons Castle.

He is survived by his parents, James Allen ``Jimmy'' Britt and Pamela Susan Ivey Britt; two sisters, Christina Dawn Britt and Lauren Angela Britt, all of Surry; his maternal grandmother, Louise Agnes Ivey (and grandfather the late Elmer Henry Ivey); maternal great-grandmother, Bettie Twiddy, all of Elizabeth City, N.C.; paternal grandparents, Boney J. and Fannie Mae Britt of Dendron; his aunts, Geraldine Bray, Bonnie Sue Peeples, Margaret Joan Watring, Shiela Mae Necessary; his uncles, Steven Glen Ivey, Kenny Lee Britt, Michael Wayne Britt, Dean Walter Britt, Larry Eugene Britt and Randy Julius Britt; a cousin, Don Crocker, and his wife, Kathy; best friends, William and Cindy Wood; and a host of friends and relatives.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in Bacon's Castle Baptist Church by the Rev. James Acree and the Rev. Lewis Lawson. The family will receive friends at Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friends that would like to offer the family assistance may send their gifts to Kenny and Peggy Britt, P.O.
