IT WAS A PRETTY GOOD DAY FOR CASTING AWAY

The first big bluefish of the fall season were landed Tuesday from Avalon Pier. The jumbos weighed around 12 pounds and were caught on cut bait. Small bluefish weighing between one and two pounds and a 31-inch striper also were decked.

Small blues and a few keeper puppy drum were taken on Kitty Hawk Pier.

Nags Head Pier reported a 16 1/2-pound striped bass and scattered sea mullet landed.

A few speckled trout and small bluefish were caught from Jennette's Pier.

Fishermen on Outer Banks Pier landed small bluefish off and on throughout the day.

South of Oregon Inlet, Rodanthe Pier reported slow fishing with a handful of trout, small blues and a few keeper puppy drum taken.

Anglers on Avon Pier released small stripers during the morning and landed small bluefish in the afternoon.

Some speckled trout, a few bluefish and several keeper puppy drum were taken from Frisco Pier during the morning. Afternoon action was slow.

Scattered keeper stripers and small bluefish were taken by surfcasters from Corolla to Oregon Inlet Tuesday.

A few stripers, blues and trout were caught around Oregon Inlet.

Some speckled trout were beached north of Rodanthe Pier. Small bluefish, small puppy drum and an occasional striper were hauled in by surf fishermen from Rodanthe to Buxton.

Good numbers of stripers were landed at Cape Point Monday night by anglers using cut bait.Some speckled trout were taken Tuesday near the lighthouse, and bluefish and a few puppy drum were caught at Cape Point.

Speckled trout, bluefish, a few gray trout and throwback puppy drum were beached at Hatteras Inlet.

Striped bass action was good in Croatan Sound near the Manns Harbor Bridge. Anglers trolling and casting bucktails and Rat-L-Traps caught all they wanted.

Good catches also were reported by charters trolling in the ocean. The Hobo out of Pirates Cove Marina caught her limit of stripers weighing as much as 30 pounds while trolling a short distance from shore between Jennette's and Outer Banks Piers.

Blue water action off Oregon Inlet was fairly good for yellowfin tuna.

Hatteras charters landed plenty of medium-sized king mackerel off the point of shoals. The fish were taken by live bait and also by trolling. Scattered yellowfin tuna also were taken.

The water temperature was 58 degrees Tuesday at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck, and 64 degrees at Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island. ILLUSTRATION: Color Photo
