LOCAL SCENE - BUSINESS

HAMPTON ROADS

ROBERTS ELECTED TREASURER: Richard D. Roberts was elected treasurer of the Virginia Wesleyan College Board of Trustees. He will also serve as chairman of the finance committee. Roberts is the past president and chief executive officer of the TeleCable Corp. He was appointed to the college's board in 1996. He replaces William J. Fanney who remains on the board but is stepping down from these two positions.

NORFOLK

FOREHAND NAMED ASSOCIATE: Sandra L. Forehand was named an associate at the law firm of Mays & Valentine. She will practice in the firm's commercial real estate practice group. She received her law degree from Loyola University, New Orleans, and a bachelor's degree from Virginia Wesleyan College.

GOUGH HEADS SENIOR CENTER: Dr. William W. Gough was elected president of the Norfolk Senior Center. Gough, who specializes in rheumatology at NDC Medical Center, will serve a one-year term.

PILE AND PIERCE PROMOTED: Patricia M. Pile and Kelly Levan Pierce, both certified public accountants, were promoted at Roberts and Speece. Pile was promoted to supervisor and Pierce to senior staff accountant. Deborah H. Wigg has joined the firm as an audit senior and Stanley R. Naperala and Renee A. Youmans join the accounting staff.

SIX PROMOTED TO ASSOCIATE: Michael C. Beaver, Kurt A. Flechtner, Joseph C. Freeman, Arthur J. Gaskin, Barbara S. Page and D. Keith Storms were promoted to associates at Hanbury Evans Newill Vlattas & Co. Beaver, who has been with the company since 1985, has worked primarily on Defense Department projects for the firm. Flechtner was a project manager on the Jones Institute at Eastern Virginia Medical School.

Freeman, a member of the firm since 1994, has been the company's project manager for the renovations to the College of William and Mary's Swem Library. Gaskin, who joined the firm last year, has worked on the design of Virginia Beach's Pavilion Center and additions to four area Catholic churches.

Page has worked on the preservation and restoration of numerous historic buildings throughout Virginia including the Wells Theatre and Fort Norfolk. And Storms was project manager of the Batten Library at Norfolk Academy, which was awarded American School & University's Crow Island First Place Award in 1996.

NEWPORT NEWS

GILES AND TRAHAN JOIN CONSULTING FIRM: Organization Diagnostics appointed Kathleen Giles and Bob Trahan to organization development consultants. Giles is the coordinator for the company's cultural realignment mission. She specializes in human relations training and leadership development.
