Prepaid tuition plan

for Virginia colleges

to be meeting's topic

The Virginia Prepaid Education Program, which permits parents to prepay tuition at state colleges and universities for their children, will be explained by a representative of the trust fund at a public meeting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Woodrow Wilson High School Little Theater.

The program is open to all children who have yet to enter the 10th grade. Parents, grandparents and others can prepay tuition and mandatory fees at any state school or combination of schools. The plan offers a variety of payment options and tax advantages.

Deadline for enrollment this year is Dec. 15. For more information, call 1-888-567-0540.

Business people invited to

see Portsmouth's downtown

The Olde Towne Business Association will use its holiday party as a time to show off Portsmouth's downtown area to business people from around Hampton Roads.

``The Second Annual Holiday Reception for Business Opportunities in Olde Towne'' will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Dec. 11. The party will be held in empty retail space on the new High Street ferry inlet at Admiral's Landing.

Last year, the party attracted potential new business owners to the 600 block of High Street, where the Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing Authority had buildings for sale.

``This is a good time for anyone thinking of relocating or starting a new business to meet these people and to take a fresh look at what is happening in Olde Towne,'' said Bill Schlaht, chairman of the event.

For details, call 398-0990.
