Police are hunting for a professional art thief who stole a four- million dollar painting from a museum in Oxford, England.

Retired Admiral Elmo (ZOOM-wahlt) Zumwalt died today from complications related to cancer surgery at a Durham, North Carolina hospital. Last September, Zumalt discovered a cancerous tumor in his chest. The Navy Admiral was known for ordering the spraying of Agent Orange over the jungles of Vietnam during the war. He also made naval history by becoming the youngest top ranking officer at the age of 49. Zumwalt was 79 years old.

9-1-1 dispatchers in Pittsylvania County had to contend with a minor computer glitch caused by the Y-2-K bug.

The county's emergency services coordinator says when the computer saw the first call came in with double zeroes for the year, it concluded that it came before calls in 1996.
That was the year the system was installed.

A seat belt is being credited with saving a local man's life tonight.

Shortly after seven-- the driver lost control, hit an embankment, and flipped over.
It happened on Meriman Road in Roanoke County.
The man walked away with only scrapes and bruises.

A Ferrum man is dead after he ran his pickup off the road. 49 year old Gerald Hess was traveling west on route 640 in Ferrum shortly after 6-30 this evening, when his pickup ran onto the shoulder of the road, striking a drain pipe and several trees. Hess was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials say alcohol was found in the pickup and Hess was not wearing a seat belt.
