Two Bedford County women are facing federal prison time- for a fraud scheme that netted them more than 300- thousand dollars.

58-year old Thelma Mae Barger and 67-year old Dorothy Saunders pleaded guilty to mail fraud and Social Security fraud today.
Authorities say the pair used their power of attorney to bilk two elderly sisters out of their life savings.
Much of the money helped build this 12-thousand square foot home near Huddleston.
Barger and Saunders must repay the money or the house could be forfeited.

Just hours before those talks began, a grenade attack on the Russian embassy in Lebanon left two people dead.

It happened in the middle of the day ... on a busy roadway in the Muslim part of Beirut- Lebanon's capitol city.


No word who the attackers were, but the Associated Press reports they may have been Muslims angry about Russia's war with Chechnya.

Two garages, with their cars still inside, sunk into a hole 130-feet wide.
The garages disappeared in the hole when an old mining tunnel under them collapsed yesterday.
Construction workers are now trying to fill the big hole with 5-thousand tons of concrete .. to prevent nearby houses from collapsing too.

Apparently a thief drove the vehicle through the glass doors of a high school pool complex in Portland Oregon.
The van scraped starting blocks 3 and four, dragged in a folding chair and landed right side up in the pool.
How to get the car out? The pool will be drained- so the van can be towed-
Police are classifying the crime as a senseless act of vandalism and have no immediate suspects.

A 24 hour kissing marathon in Taiwan might answer that question.
More than 50 couples started, and they had to kiss for eight straight hours before taking a ten-minute break.
Only three pairs survived the full 24 hours, and they'll share the 76-hundred dollar prize.
Most of those voluntarily giving up were the men, who in many cases left their more patient and still fiercely competitive partners to quit in anger.
