As of January 1st, Martinsville Memorial Hospital is no longer a participating provider with MAMSI health insurance. City Manager Earl Reynolds put out a notice to all 800 employees stating that MAMSI will treat the hospital as a par provider through the end of the contract in June -- which should mean little financial impact on the employees. [Pre-Pro] The special alert also says if the hospital does not receive payment from MAMSI is 30 days, the patient will be billed directly. The case came to light when the sisters.. Alice and Bettie McNeil.. were evicted from their nursing home because their bills hadn't been paid.
All told, Saunders and Barger helped themselves to 320- thousand dollars, and spent less than 15- thousand on the two sisters' care.
But defense attorneys say there's more to it than that.. that Saunders and Barger had spent years caring for the McNeils themselves.. without any kind of payment.
