Three schools in Franklin County closed this morning because of a bomb threat.

Someone called the switchboard at the county high school around 8 o'clock to say that a bomb was in one of the buildings.
That turned out to be a hoax.
But officials had to send everyone home.
Students at Benjamin Franklin Middle School and at the (CAT-see) CATCE center also had to leave for the day, because they're on the same bus routes as the high school students.

A Franklin County man is accused of stabbing a man because he talked to police.
Gary Tiller is charged with attempted murder and malicious wounding for allegedly stabbing Chanton (SHAN-ton) Claybrooks in the stomach today, near Boones Mill.
Franklin County investigators say Tiller was angry that Claybrooks provided evidence against him in an arson and larceny case.

Planned Parenthood of the Blue Ridge is expecting the lab results of a letter sent to them yesterday claiming its laced with anthrax. The F-B-I branch in Roanoke is testing the substance on the letter.

Several other states across the country also received threats. Planned Parenthood President David Nova says of the 18 letters tested that arrived in other states, so far, six have come back as a hoax.

Anthrax is a bacterial disease spread by inhaling contaminated particles or handling the wool or hair or eating meat from a diseased animal. The symptoms vary depending on the type of exposure. Health Department Director Molly Rutledge says it is life threatening to humans if left untreated.
