Fire officials say a motorist backed into a gas line around three thirty, igniting the fumes.
At one point-- witnesses say flames were 25- feet in the air.
Nearby homes and apartments were evacuated as a precaution.
Resident were allowed to return about 30- minutes later-- once the gas company was able to shut the line off.
No one was injured.

An anthrax scare at a Richmond homeless shelter that shares space with a Planned Parenthood office-
The Daily Planet got a letter saying it contained anthrax spores Tuesday.
A similar letter was received at Planned Parenthood of the Blue Ridge in Roanoke, and 18 other offices across the country.
Both Virginia letters are being tested by the F-B-I.
Six others turned out to be a hoax.

The Smith Mountain Lake Volunteer Firefighters protect lake-area homes with fireboats, not trucks.
Theirs was the first department in the nation to earn insurance credit for fireboats, saving homeowners hundreds of dollars.
They hope to pump up their eight-boat fleet.

Patrick Community Hospital accepts patients covered by MAMSI, Mid-Atlantic Medical Services incorporated.

Patrick Community is the only hospital in the region that remains a participating provider.
Patients who present MAMSI cards at that hospital will be responsible only for their co-payment.
