The usual funnyman confided in guest Regis Philbin on tonight's Late Show about
his heart test.
Doctors say Letterman underwent emergency quintuple bypass surgery after an
angiogram found one of his arteries was seriously constricted.
A spokesperson says the procedure went smoothly and David Letterman is expected
to make a full recovery.
The Late Show host has often joked about his health, especially his high cholesterol level.
For a month, he even went on an oat bran diet, complaining nightly about the taste of the stuff.
CBS says the network will air re-runs of the Late Show until Letterman gets
back on his feet.
That won't be soon enough for many of his fans.
