Good evening, I'm Scott Goldberg. Teresa is off tonight.
There's been a major development concerning doctors departing the Lewis-Gale Clinic.
News-7 has learned that at least 14 of the 18 doctors who resigned this month -- all family-practice physicians -- plan to stay in the area.
They are now working on a deal that would let them continue seeing their regular patients without any interruptions.

[RUNS=36]

((
Here's the deal as explained to News-7 by a source very close to the negotiations.
Each of the 14 will seek to open his or her own, independent clinic outside of the Lewis-Gale network.
This would insure patients can continue to see their current doctors.
Neogtiations are now focused on getting the doctors out of their non-compete clauses that would stop the doctors from practicing medicine in Southwest Virginia.
We're told Columbia H-C-A ... which owns Lewis-Gale Medical Center ... will help buy out the doctors' contracts.
It's in Columbia's interest to keep the clinic's doctors in town, because they regularly refer business to specialists at the Medical Center.))

This is not a done deal.
But it is now the focus of negotiations in Nashville.
And we are told the doctors are confident they will not be leaving this area.
ALSO tonight, News-7 has learned the names of four more doctors who resigned from the Lewis-Gale Clinic and will go out on their own next month:
(+++++++)

[TAKE FS GRAPHIC]
They are:
Rodney Poffenberger, a urologist who's also a vice president at the Clinic.
He plans to stay in the area.
Darrell Powledge, in occupational medicine -- also will stay in town.
Rana Goodrich, a family practicioner.
And Marie Malinchak (muh-REE MAL-in-check), also in family practice, says she's moving to North Carolina.

A most unusual police chase in Roanoke County in the last hour turned into a neighborhood spectacle. Several witnesses all tell the same story: four or more police cars, with lights flashing, trying to pull over a compact car driving around and around the North Lakes neighborhood.
Witnesses say the car wasn't traveling at breakneck speed .. but it just wouldn't stop.
Roanoke police confirm they have tried to pull over a traffic suspect but have no further details.
We have a crew in the neighborhood, and we may have more later in this newscast.
