It was the middle of the night when fire broke out in a third floor study lounge- killing three students and injuring 50 others.

Roanoke police are on the lookout tonight for two dogs - including one that attacked an animal control officer this evening.
The officer was responding to a call of two stray pit bulls - one vicious.
When she caught up with them in the 18-hundred block of Eastern Avenue - and was loading one into her vehicle - the other bit her several times.
She shot at the dog and wounded it, but both animals ran off.
The officer was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

The ECHL all-star game was played last night at the Bi-Lo center in South Carolina. Former Express coach Frank Anzalone coached the South, but the North skated away to the 8-to-6 win.

James River head football coach Doug Ross, who won 79 games for the Knights during his tenure, told News 7 Sports this afternoon that he has been relieved of his coaching duties. Ross has had various levels of success at the school. He coached there 22 years, including 16 as a head coach. Ross says he was told by Principal Larry Journell (JOURNAL) that some criticism in the Botetourt community and a lack of enthusiasm prompted him to make the change.

Defensive coordinator Mike Nolan was told to make a few changes in order to stay next season. He refused and quit. Nolan came to the Skins from the Giants and spent three years trying to mold the defense. Ironically, after playing poorly all year, the team actually did a good job over the season's final 5 games.
Defensive backs coach Tom Hayes was fired, and with defensive line coach Earl Leggett retired.

((The good times have taken the Giles all the way to the state's third place ranking in the Group A poll. A loss last year has been a big part of the Spartans rise this season. ((:)) ((:))
Glenvar graduated nine of 12 players off last years state championship team. Art Lawrence has handed the reins to Rick Crotts whose team is fighting, with a 3 and 9 record. Leading scorer Scott Price is the only returning part time starter.
Floyd County is 2 and 11, Shawsville is 6-5 and Auburn is 5 and 5. The district is strong, two of the last three Single A state champions have come from this district.
Radford is 11 and 4 and 3 and OH in district play. Super Soph Shane Nichols is Three Rivers third leading scorer, averaging 18 points a game. ((:))
The Bobcats go 8 or 9 deep and everyone wants to win badly.))

The five-time Emmy award winner's name is now on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Friends and former co-stars like Andy Griffith and John Ritter joined in the celebration.
As for Knotts, he couldn't be any more excited.
