The night of the fire on 13th Street Northeast, paramedics noticed blood on Griffin's clothes.
Blood on one shoe and a pant leg led police to charge Griffin with murder and arson.
The medical examiner concluded Cline did not die in the fire but found that the victim had four broken ribs.

Former Roanoke City manager Bern Ewert is looking for a new job.
He resigned yesterday as the county executive for Prince William County.
Ewert quit under pressure from the board of supervisors.
They liked some of his initiatives, but criticized his blunt management style.
Ewert doesn't have anything lined up right now. He'll be living in Charlottesville until he does.
He gets a year's severance pay, about 128-thousand dollars.

James River head football coach Doug Ross, who won 79 games at the Buchanan based school during his tenure, told News 7 Sports this afternoon that he has been relieved of his coaching duties. Ross has had various levels of success at the school while competing in the Pioneer district. He coached 22 years at the school, including 16 as a head coach. Ross says he was told by Principal Larry Journell that some criticism in the Botetourt community and a so-called lack of enthusiasm prompted him to make the change.
