Well, not exactly! Snow and freezing rain decided to head south for the winter ... leaving homes without power .. and many residents feeling powerless.

Snow and ice made driving slow-going -- if not impossible -- in many parts of the southeast.

Even airports have been affected. This U-S Airways jet skidded off a slick runway Saturday night ... while landing in Charlotte, North Carolina. Luckily, no one was hurt.
Forecasters predict some areas will start warming up as early as Monday. In the meantime, folks say all they can do now is wait ... for their troubles to melt away.

Three quarters of Virginians are paying too much in taxes.
Some argue it's because reducing the amount that's withheld requires writing for permission from the Department of Taxation.
State lawmakers passed a bill more than a decade ago to make that process easier, but they've been voting to delay the law ever since.
Tax officials estimate Virginia would lose millions if the law were implemented.
Another bill to delay the implementation is in the General Assembly, this year.
But some say it may have a harder time than usual because of the state's budget surplus.

Residents in the 804 area code could be in for a change.
Officials say by next year the area code will be full due to the increased number of new phone numbers in central Virginia.
Now the State Corporation Commission is looking for ways to accommodate residents.
So far, there is only one proposal -- it would allow customers who have the 804 area code to keep it while new customers would receive the new 703 area code.
The S-C-C will hold a public hearing in March on the proposed change.

Prosecutors in Boone County, Kentucky won't have a tough time making their case against an Ohio woman charged with stealing a police car.

Police say as the woman got out of her car-- they thought she had a gun and scrambled to get out of the way.
The woman then jumped into the police car-- and sped off.

Today, Steve Fleshman was voted in as the new commissioner of the Western District of the Virginia School League Officials Assocaition.
