[SUPER=@Scott1;]
Jean, tonight the number of doctors leaving the Lewis-Gale Clinic jumped to 28 -- and that's only in the last month.
The entire anesthesiology department is resigning.
And once again they're blaming PhyCor, the Clinic's parent company, of mismanagement.
(XXXXXXXXXX)
[TAKE Full screen Board]
The anesthesiology department has 10 doctors:
Lynn Carter .... Joe Clark ... Christopher Cordero ... James Elton .... Jeffery Forbes ... Gennard Lanzara ... Alvis Perry .... Daniel Podeschi ... Daniel Summerlin ... and Roger Wesley.
(---------------)
[Live=Scott full/Newsroom]
Earlier this month 18 doctors resigned -- 14 of those are family practice doctors.
They're still negotiating a way out of their contracts.
Tonight a spokeswoman for the clinic says the departing anesthesiologists certainly are a concern -- but says unlike the family practitioners, these doctors leaving won't have a direct effect on patient care.

Finally--after months of seeing him on TV--the grandmothers of six-year
old Elian Gonzalez finally get to see him in person.
Raquel Rodriguez and Mariela Quintana are meeting with Elian privately
-- on decidedly neutral ground -- here at the home of a Roman Catholic
nun. This, after the Justice Department ordered the Miami relatives to
make Eilan available for a visit with his grandmothers. The reunion is
being held in an upstairs room ... without Elian's Miami family present
... but with the assurance that this is not a ploy to send the child
back to Cuba.
Sister Jeanne O'Laughlin/ President, Barry University: There is no way I would allow anything like that or be part of anything
like that. If that could happen in Cuba -- I know not. But it will not and cannot happen here.
Even though Elian's Miami relatives complied with the order, they are
upset that Monday's planned meeting at their home fell through.
Spencer Eig/Miami family attorney:
"The Cuban officials have been trying to block the meeting. They did not want the grandmothers to see how well Elian is doing at home. They did
not want the world to see what a nice reception Elian would receive."
Elian's plight remains a hot topic on Capital Hill. One of the boy's Miami cousins met with Senator Connie Mack today. Mack and others are
pushing a bill through Congress that would grant Elian U-S citizenship.
Georgiana Sid/Elian's cousin:We came to Washington to fight for Elian's rights and for that to be heard. He doesn't want to go back.
But for these grandmothers, citizenship is not an option. For them -- the only solution is returning Elian to Cuba .. to be with them and his
father.
