The official line is: This won't hurt much.
But news today that another 10 doctors are departing from the Lewis-Gale Clinic is raising a whole new round of questions about the clinic's stability -- and its ability to provide medical care.

Keith, this time it's a group of anesthesiologists leaving -- once again blaming what they say are bad management practices of the Lewis-Gale Clinic's parent company.
The clinic's board of directors is meeting tomorrow to talk about all these doctors leaving -- and how this latest round of departures will affect negotiations with doctors who left earlier this month.

(( What could hurt Lewis-Gale Clinic PATIENTS the most is the resignation of 14 family practice doctors. Today was the unofficial target date for reaching a deal that would let them keep practicing medicine in the area.
Now ... negotiations won't likely end before the middle of next week. [pre pro] Today's departure involves 10 anesthesiologists: Lynn Carter .... Joe Clark ... Christopher Cordero ... James Elton .... Jeffery Forbes ... Gennard Lanzara ... Alvis Perry .... Daniel Podeschi ... Daniel Summerlin ... and Roger Wesley.

(-----------)
[Live= Scott Full/Newsroom]

Now, a total of 28 doctors have left the clinic this month.
32 have left since December.
And tonight there's speculation in the medical community that this is not the last round of resignations from the clinic.
Still ... a clinic spokeswoman said THIS round of layoffs is different, it's something they saw coming -- that it's rare for a clinic to have its own anesthesiology department anyway.
[Double Boxes=Keith and Scott/Newsroom]

Keith.
(KEITH QUESTION): But if all 10 anesthesiologists are leaving, won't this affect doctors performing surgeries?

(SCOTT): Not for 90 days. The resigning anesthesiologists had to give a three-month notice before leaving.
After that, the clinic will have to recruit new doctors.
And the official line is this will not hurt patient care ... but with so many doctors leaving ... and negotiations so far not producing results ... sources in the medical community are asking tonight: How many more doctors can this clinic afford to lose.
