The winter weather we've been anticipating has finally arrived.
Many roads are snow covered and as you can see from the bottom of your screen many churches have closed for tomorrow as well.

V-DOT officials say many roads are snow covered, icy and hazardous. And are advising motorist to stay off the roads unless they have snow tires.

But if you must go out drive slowly and maintain a safe distance between you and the next vehicle.
V-DOT will have crews out throughout the night salting and clearing the roads. V-DOT officials say the conditions do vary from county to county. Some of the worst road conditions seem to be in Giles Co, Pulaski Co., Montgomery Co., and Wythe and Bland Co. -- major portions of the roads are covered with ice or snow.
Other areas such as Roanoke Co, Craig Co, Martinsville -- the roads are not as bad -- but do have a few ice spots.

Roanoke police suspect the owner of a local motel was murdered after being robbed this morning.

57- year old Betty (duh-sigh) DeSai was found dead inside the Park Inn International motel on Melrose Avenue.... around ten this morning.
Police say the motel had been robbed.
Authorities have NOT confirmed how DeSai was killed.

An arrest was made in connection with a Danville murder earlier this week.
23 year old Ray Matthew Grant of Barriman Avenue has been charged with first degree murder for allegedly stabbing 45 year old Mary Deloris Johnson.

Johnson's body was found on Thursday in her bedroom on Memorial Drive after police received several calls from friends concerned because they had not heard from her.

A stream of doctors leaving Lewis Gale Clinic -- prompted high level talks today in Salem.

The Lewis Gale Clinic's administration is meeting with a top executive from Phycor.
That's the clinic's parent company.
It's also the company that 29 doctors accused of mismanaging the clinic when they resigned this month.
Lewis-Gale won't comment on today's talks.
The clinic is looking for a way to keep itself operating -- and keep more doctors from leaving.
One option is cutting the clinic's ties to Phycor.
Salem City Council is also planning to weigh in on the issue. [Pre-Pro]
The Salem City manager issued a letter to council members calling an emergency meeting for Monday to vote on a resolution.
The letter says: this special meeting will be for the purpose of passing resolution 947 encouraging a solution to the apparent impasse that has developed at Lewis Gale Clinic between the physicians and Phycor.

550 union workers at Norfolk Southern will be laid off next Friday and officials say it could be permanent.

Railroad officials say a loss of revenue, high diesel prices and a weak export coal market are to blame.
Of the 550 union employees, 67 work on the Virginia rail lines and nine work in Roanoke's rail yard.
The layoffs came just two days after Norfolk Southern announced its early retirement program for 12-hundred NONunion employees.
Company officials hope the retirement program will help the railroad recover financially from its takeover of Conrail.

There was a fatal shooting in Botetourt County tonight. Apparently two brothers who live in Troutville got into a fight. Officials say shots were fired and one of the brothers was killed. Sheriff officials say the brother who fired the gun is in custody tonight. No word on their names. Officials are investigating.

In their first year of eligibility, Joe Montana and Ronnie Lott, who played on four San Francisco 49-er Super Bowl championship teams, were elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Joining Montana and Lott is Howie long who had 84 career sacks in 13 seasons with the Raiders in Oakland and Los Angeles.
