One Valley Bancorp plans to merge with B-B-and-T.
A formal announcement is expected later today.

A party turned violent left one man dead and another in police custody.
Now Halifax County authorities have identified the victim of the weekend murder.

When Sheriff's deputies arrived at this house on Chapel Trail around three yesterday morning they found 21- year old William Joseph (Fan-kur) Fancher of North Carolina dead from a gunshot wound.
Authorities later arrested 29 year old Joseph Eric Leonard of for allegedly driving under the influence.
Investigators believe Leonard is also responsible for the murder.
He's been charged with first degree murder and use of a firearm to commit a felony.
Officials say an argument lead to the shooting.

President Clinton will make a stop in Virginia today.
The president is scheduled to come to The Homestead resort in Hot Springs for a meeting of the House Democratic Issues Conference.
The conference's sessions are private, and Mr. Clinton doesn't have any public events on his agenda in Hot Springs.
President Clinton's farewell one- point- 84 trillion dollar budget package will be unveiled today.
And it's likely to set off another battle with congressional Republicans who want to turn surpluses into major tax cuts.

This new year celebration welcomes in the year of the dragon.

This is also a benefit for Roanoke's sister city in China.

One of the doctors who resigned from Lewis Gale Clinic has found away to stay in the Roanoke Valley.
Doctor Rodney Poffenberger resigned in November -- and after giving a 90 day notice went into private practice Friday.
As Joy Sutton reports -- Poffenberger is now the first, of the departing doctors, to do this.
