more than half the hostages aboard a hijacked Afghan plan have been released tonight. Police say around 85 people - starting with women and children - were let go.
They left by the back staircase of the plane.
They appeared to be holding their hands in the air - fueling hopes that the ordeal that began Sunday, is nearing an end.
Hijackers have been holding about 150 people hostage.
Negotiations are continuing.

[take pre-pro] First Home Care out of Norfolk is setting up the group home that will house 8 boys between the ages of 12 and 15 with mental health conditions like aggressive behavior, school and family issues, as well as prior substance abuse. According to the company - it has an outstanding record with therapeutic group homes and own and operate 11 across the country.

Neighbors are also concerned because the front yard is too small to play in - you can see there is little space between the homes, the back yard has been paved over, and residents are worried about the behavior that could take place inside the group home.
Vinton is trying to get legislation passed in Richmond that would allow the town to have a say in where group homes are placed.

An S-U-V careened off of Interstate 581 in Roanoke tonight - and almost landed in someone's back yard.

Police say the driver of this vehicle was driving south on 5-81 when he lost control... ran off the side of the road... over the embankment... and hit a fence.
Police have not released the driver's name... but he was taken to Roanoke Memorial with serious injuries. Investigators are trying to figure out why the man lost control of the vehicle.

Four students were sent to the hospital today after their school bus collided with a pick-up truck.
The students were riding Bedford County bus 152. State police say the bus was hit as it pulled onto route 746 near Chamblissburg.
Four Staunton River Middle School students and the pickup driver were treated and released from R-M-H.
State police charged school bus driver, Herman Lee Morris of Moneta, with failing to yield the right of way.

Flames and smoke poured out of the four story structure.
At least one person died in the blaze - an office worker who was one of the people taken from the building by ladder.

No word on what caused the blaze.

Speaking of Wake Forest, Lady Demon Deacons head coach and former William Fleming standout Charlene Curtis attended the Fleming/Pulaski game Tuesday night and watched her former high school teammate and now Lady Colonels coach Cynthia Brown beat the Lady Cougars. Her daughter Tonia is being recruited by Wake. The Colonels are lead by 7 seniors and are 11 and 2. After graduation, McGeorge went to Elon College and then to the N-F-L.
