Last night, the Franklin County Planning Commission approved a plan that would allow the construction of retail shops, restaurants, and a marina, as well as a 96 unit condominium complex.
Supporters of the plan are excited about the job opportunities and additional boat slots, while opponents think the development would ruin the landscape.
The Board of Supervisors will vote on the plan Tuesday.

Vistar Eye Doctors have won the fight in Richmond to build a new eye surgery center in the Roanoke Valley... but they say say they'll keep fighting to repeal Virginia's Certificate-of-Public-Need law.

Diamond Hill became an historic district in 1978.. since then, residents who support the strict architectural regulations have clashed with those who say the rules are too burdensome and expensive.. to the point where they've tried to secede from the district on two separate occasions.
Now the city wants to pay professional mediators ten thousand dollars to try and get the two sides to sit down and talk out their differences.
Some council members say that's a waste of taxpayer money.

When he returned home later that day, she shot him in the chest.

A Roanoke nurse has admitted to defrauding the Social Security Administration after cashing her dead patient's Social Security checks.

Ruby Perry insists she tried to notify the Social Security Administration of Sir Walter Faison's death, but she continued to cash Social Security checks... totaling almost 20-thousand dollars.
In federal court yesterday the 65 year old nurse learned she'll spend the next four months under house arrest and then serve three years on probation.
