The special grand jury has finished its investigation of former Vinton Police Lieutenant Bill Brown.
The special prosecuter in charge of the investigations says the grand jury's report has been submitted to the court and it will be up to a judge to decide if that report will be released.

Lt. Brown was number two in command of an 18-member department- -second to Chief Ricky Foutz.

More than a dozen people are dead, and some 100 injured in the wake of a string of killer tornados that spun their way through the Southeast overnight.

I was looking out the window and saw a whole bunch of stuff just flying. The wind picked up and all of a sudden, just like a loud c rash and you could hear the glass breaking outside and we all hit the floor.

Hardest hit the town of Camilla Georgia where the majority of the dead are being recovered.
The storm tore a path some 5 miles wide straight through the heart of rural neighborhood destroying as many as 60 homes in the blink of an eye.
This storm was not a freight train, as on resident said. This, was more like a bulldozer.

The twisters grew out of a line of thunderstorms that swept across the south and onto the east coast -- knocking out power and downing trees.
By daylight the damage was bringing in estimates up in the millions and worries of how to rebuild.

A cyanide solution is used to separate gold ore from surrounding rock.

The case of Sam Sheppard and the murder of his wife inspired the T-V show and the movie "the Fugitive."
Shepherd was convicted of the murder in 19-54 but acquitted in a second trial more than a decade later.

Authorities say a Botetourt County man set fire to his family's home Saturday morning.
46 year old Charles Douglas Russell later turned himself over to sheriff's authorities and was charged with arson.
Russell's wife recently sought a protective order against her husband.
She and her two children were staying with relatives at the time of the fire.

Roanoke County native and Virginia Tech star George Canale is a member of the class of 2000. Milwaukee drafted Canale out of Tech in 1986.
He was called up twice to the majors and also played overseas.
Canale is joined by Salem native Paul Johnston. Johnston was the last pitcher to win 20 games in historic Salem Municipal Field. He also played with the Boston Braves and Pittsburgh Athletics.
