Authorities say three men went on a hike today near Sugar Loaf Lookout off of the Blue Ridge Parkway, near Fancy Gap.
Only one of the men returned after the all-day outing. He says his friends never made it back - and he doesn't know where they are.
A search and rescue team is combing the area.

An announcement in Henry County tomorrow -- is expected to bring news of 400 new jobs.
Government sources says a major clothing manufacturer will open a distribution center in the county with the highest unemployment rate in Virginia.
The plans call for about a 40 million dollar investment and eventually construction of a new state of the art facility.
The announcement comes after more than 35-hundred textile jobs have been lost in the Henry County area.

Elsie Witcher, known as Bishop, founded the New Design Holiness Church in Sontag. She crashed her car last night and went to a neighbor's house to call police. The sheriff said Witcher then fell on the floor and died of a heart attack. She was 76 years old.

Blacksburg firefighters say an overloaded electrical outlet was to blame for a blaze that destroyed twelve apartments.

The fire erupted mid-morning in the 29-hundred building of Foxridge Apartments. It started in the kitchen of a third-floor apartment.
Firefighters say the woman who lived there had plugged too many appliances into one electrical outlet.
Firefighters worked on the blaze for one hour to bring the flames under control but not before it gutted all four apartments on the top floor.
Apartments on the two lower floors had water damage.
Total Damage is estimated at 300-thousand dollars.
Residents are being put up in a motel until they find other lodging.

Some Roanoke County cable subscribers are getting two more channels. But is it worth more money?
Cox Communications says it's raising the standard-service rate by a dollar-59 if you live in the Roanoke Valley.
It means - starting next month - your bill for the popular basic-and-standard package goes up to 33-dollars a month.
Cox says the two new channels are the Discovery Health Network and the Cartoon Network.

The Mountain Empire district regular season ended in an unusual four way tie between Galax, Ft. Chiswell, Narrows and Grayson Co. The two-night playoff for the four teams began last night in Wyhteville with Fort Chiswell and Galax getting wins. They will play tonight with a trip to regionals on the line. In the Pioneer, Parry McCluer lost to Covington in their regular season playoff. Covington now advances to the Region C tournament. ((BYE BYE))

An annual Lantern Festival is lighting up Taiwan.

The dragon lantern lighting is a symbol of warding off ghosts. The rain didn't dampen the annual celebration that commemorated the last day of the Chinese New Year. Torches were used years ago... to track down wandering spirits.
The festival came about when they started to use lanterns. Firecrackers were also set off as a symbol of good luck.
