New jobs and a new plan to help laid off workers in Southside.

Keith, the Governor's bill would increase the maximum weekly unemployment check 36 dollars, eliminate the one week wait for those laid off by bankruptcy, and let people collect benefits while taking classes.

Last week, his Deputy Secretary of Commerce told lawmakers a statewide increase could "drain the Unemployment Trust Fund."

Gilmore's plan would increase access to local health departments.

The Senate Finance Committee has an emergency health insurance plan just for the Southside workers.
The Governor did NOT embrace that today.
His bill now goes to the House and Senate.
It has a key advantage-- it would retroactively pay the increased benefits back to November 28th... something Ward Armstrong would have needed 81 votes to accomplish... but the Governor can do with just 51 votes in the House.
