30-year-old Jeffrey Thomas is being held in the New River Regional Jail without bond until he appears in court for a bond hearing next Monday at 8:30 in the morning.
Thomas' family members were disappointed they didn't get to see him this morning. But they say that the arraignment may have been held earlier than expected because of potential security threats.
Yesterday, Thomas' sister and brother-in-law told News 7 they were stunned at the arrest and hoped the charges would be proven false.
Thomas is charged with the capital murder of Tara Munsey during or after an attempted sexual assault. Her body was found in a ravine, shot and clothed from the waist down earlier this month.
