The young woman, who's name has not been released, was rock climbing with friends at McCoy Falls.

Rescue squad volunteers had to use ropes to bring the 19- year old down the hillside.
She was then transported to Montgomery Regional Hospital with serious injuries to her head.
The accident happened around four thirty.

A Danville man is in stable condition tonight after being shot in the head earlier today.

It happened around ten o'clock at Purdum Woods apartments.
When investigators arrived they say they heard someone moaning inside.
That's when officers forced their way in and found a black male on the floor, face down, with a gun shot wound to the head.
26-year-old Vashun Matez Strader was airlifted to Duke Medical Center... where doctors say he's expected to recover.

Police have charged 30 year old Willie Michelle Walton with aggravated malicious wounding.

A Radford teenager died early this morning after crashing into a tree.
State police say 18- year old Beverly Ruth Duncan was traveling down Route 600- when she ran off the side of the road and struck a tree... just after midnight.
Authorities say Duncan was driving at a high rate of speed.

Another accident killed a man in Allegheny County this afternoon.
31 year old Anthony Miles McCallister of Covington was traveling on route 6-61 around 4-30... when his Harley motorcycle ran off the road and struck several objects.
McCallister was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital where he died an hour later.
No one else was injured.

Those are just a few of the greenway projects now taking shape in the Roanoke Valley. In the year 2000 much of the effort will be focused along the Roanoke River.

Land Acquisition and construction costs are often the greatest challenges for greenway supporters... and though the city of Salem owns the right of way for the first segment of the Roanoke River project, funding remains an issue.

The crowd came to hear 92- year old Oliver Hill speak about growing up in Roanoke.
Hill told stories about his childhood and what it was like living next to the Norfolk and Western railroad, as well as working on it.
He later grew up to be a noted Civil Rights attorney and a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 19-99.

More than one- hundred people attended tonight's event.

The Lady Cougars of Pulaski County won the Roanoke Valley District tournament title beating Cave Spring 46 to 42.

On Monday the men's basketball team picked up the tournament championship.

This afternoon it was the Lady Maroons turn to pick up the conference title.
Roanoke jumped out to an 11-two lead in the first half, Carrie McConnell hits Roanoke native Cheryl Rhodes to pick up two.
Emory and Henry kept up the fight, Tammy Snyder grabs the rebound and puts in the miss. Roanoke leads 28-25 at the half.
After the break the Wasps got hot, Kelly Smith tied it at 32 with this three pointer.

Then Roanoke got serious Craig County's Gina Guthrei takes matters into her own hands and downs the easy lay up.

But the Seminoles went on a 10 to 2 run led by Antwuan Dixon who scores this basket to make it 40 to 39 Semioles.


The Cavaliers would keep it close as Roger Mason drives through the lane for the score to make it 50 to 49 Noles.
