NARR: He won big with the party faithful and big among religious conservatives, gathering delegates at almost every turn. But with victory comes a price. There are deep wounds in the party he hopes to lead to the White House a party fractured by a costly campaign that in the end had turned mean.

NARR: On the positive side, Sen. John McCain brought out a lot of new voters and did well among Independents last night, especially in New England. New York -- Super Tuesday s second biggest prize --was so close it was hard to call. But along the way, McCain had criticized leaders of the Christian right and was seen by voters as the candidate who ran a more negative campaign than Bush. Still, despite running low on money and without an apparent voter mandate, he s still pushing ahead, at least for now.

A neighbor pulled a woman from a burning Roanoke County home overnight.

At about midnight, a neighbor found the woman on the floor of her burning home on Windfall Drive and carried her outside.
She was taken to the hospital.
There's no word yet on her name or condition.
Fire investigators don't know yet what sparked the blaze.

A Roanoke county grocery store was evacuated last night

Flames shot out of a tractor trailer that was up against the store.

Firefighters think the blaze broke out inside the trailer... which was heavily damaged.
No one was injured, but everyone had to leave the store for a while.

And A federal judge in Roanoke says he's leaning toward closing the ten-year-old case that forced Virginia Military Institute to admit women.
Under an agreement between V-M-I and the Justice Department, the school would file more extensive reports on its transition to coeducation through May 2001.
After that, U-S District Judge Jackson Kiser would dismiss the case.

A bitter, decade long debate between V-M-I and the U-S Justice Department will end in just over a year.

In an agreement reached in federal court the school would file more extensive reports on its transition to co-educations through May 2001.
After that Judge Jackson Kiser would dismiss the case.
The reports must provide more information on Title-9, athletics and gender relations.
The agreement includes--an acknowledgment from the Justice Department that V-M-I has made what it calls: "constructive efforts in good faith" to open the Institute to women.

Last night, the school board heard tales of teachers forced to take second jobs or who quit because they couldn't make ends meet.

A team of federal agents that investigated the Oklahoma City and World Trade Center bombings is now helping investigate the explosion at New River Castings.
A-T-F agents say it's NOT a criminal probe, though.
