This weekend will see a parade of candidates in downtown Roanoke.
On the advice of the city attorney, the Roanoke Special Events Committee has invited City Council candidates to participate in Saint Patrick's Day festivities.
Independent Candidate for mayor, Duane Howard, had asked to be included in the parade, because incumbent Mayor David Bowers was scheduled to appear.
Though parade officials initially denied Howard's request, City Attorney Bill Hackworth wrote that he did not believe the committee could prohibit parade participants from promoting political or social causes.
