Fire consumed the home. Initial indications are it was accidental, but state police fire investigators will need some time to confirm that.
Kenny Higgins was home with the kids, while Frances Chittum was at work at White's Truck Stop. A sheriff's deputy picked her up at White's and rushed her to Stonewall Jackson Hospital where Kenny and the twins had been taken.

A Virginia Tech student who left her newborn baby's body in a Blacksburg dumpster was arrested today... and then released on Eric dollars bond.

21-year-old Rosetta Elizabeth Clark was charged with improperly disposing of the baby's body... a misdemeanor.
Police found the baby boy wrapped inside several plastic bags in a dumpster more than a week ago.
Last week, a medical examiner ruled that the baby was dead at birth.

A man found praying along a highway is dead, after escaping from a sheriff's car, and running into a truck.
All this started when state police found 31 year James Patrick Looney of Charlottesville praying along Interstate 64 in Alleghany County.
He was picked up, and en route to the UVA Medical Center for a mental evaluation, when he escaped from the sheriff's vehicle.
State police say Looney ran across traffic on I-81 and was run over by a tractor trailer.

A close call this morning for workers constructing Virginia's tallest bridge....

A crane being used at the bridge collapsed shortly before 10 this morning.
About five workers were near the crane, pouring concrete at the time.
No one was hurt... but the arm of the crane broke in half.
The bridge will connect portions of the Smart Road over the Ellett Valley.

In December of 1998, the same bridge was the scene of a deadly accident.
A worker was killed when he slipped and fell inside a pillar of the bridge.
The bridge is scheduled for completion in February of next year.

A federal judge in Roanoke has dismissed a lawsuit filed by three former VMI cadets.

They were expelled for honor code violations arising from a hazing incident two years ago.
The former seniors say VMI's investigation of the incident and the honor court trial violated their constitutional rights.
Today, Judge Jackson Kiser ruled the Institute and the Board of Visitors are exempt from such lawsuits.
But he did give the plaintiffs 30 days to amend their complaint and re-file it.

A Bedford County man facing federal tax evasion charges pled not guilty in Lynchburg's U-S District Court today.

34- year- old Jeffrey Randall Breeden is accused of promoting a tax scheme where he allegedly told participants they were exempt from federal income tax.
Breeden entered a plea today without an attorney to represent him.
He blamed News7's coverage of his case for his failure to find a lawyer.
Judge Norman Moon appointed James Angel to represent Breeden at his trial, which is scheduled to begin May 30th.

One incident that prompted these concerns began last December when Officer William Boucher pursued Wilbert Lewis after he refused to pull over. When the cars did come a stop the officer believed Lewis was reaching for a gun and shot him. A gun was never found in Lewis' car.
