Authorities are on the lookout for a man they believe is posing as police officer and pulling vehicles over.
The man stopped a woman yesterday afternoon on Route 29 in northern Nelson County.
He told her to get out of her vehicle and to bring her keys and purse.
When the woman said she was going to call 9-1-1 the man fled.
(+++++++)

[TAKE PINNACLE 1002]
Authorities describe the man as a white male with brown hair and a beard.
Approximately 35 year old and about 6 feet tall.
He was driving a white Crown Victoria or Chevy Caprice.

Authorities say to be on the safe side, leave your vehicle running if you are pulled over, keep the doors locked -- and only let the window down just enough to hand out information.
And if you feel uncomfortable stopping authorities say turn on your hazard lights continue at a normal rate of speed until you reach a well lit area.
Anyone who may have seen the suspect should call 9-1-1 or the Nelson County Sheriff's office.

Debris had apparently built up in the duct work and caught fire.
Flames burned through the ducts and shot up out of the floor of the master bedroom as everyone in the house slept Sunday night. Seven- year old Kassidy Higgins and her 12-year old half sister, Rebecca Chittum, died in the fire. Funeral services for the two girls will be held tomorrow.
State Police Investigators determined that the oil furnace was replaced in 1993, but the duct work was not. The house was 40-to-50 years old.

A Danville woman has been indicted for allegedly embezzling union funds.
Thirty- nine year old Virginia Ann Price was the financial secretary to Bakery, Confectionery and Tobacco Workers Local 314-T in Danville.
The Grand Jury charges that Price wrote more than 2-thousand dollars worth of checks to herself and her two children between 1994 and 1997.
Today's 15- count indictment alleges Price also altered union records in an attempt to cover the theft.

(( After two days of testimony, it's clear that the Reform Party is itself in need of some reform.
Infighting between two factions of the party has been going on for months.. each side suing the other over various alleged slights and violations.
It culminated last month in Nashville, when new chairman Jack Gargan and treasurer Ronn Young were voted out of office.
[SOT 10:13:26]

((PAT CHOATE: JACK AND RONN WOULD NOT SUBMIT TO THE AUTHORITY OF THE PARTY. THE CONSTITUTION IS VERY CLEAR, AS OFFICERS THEY WORK FOR THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE.))

[OUT Q=executive committee.]

But Gargan says that same committee was responsible for calling what amounted to an illegal meeting in Nashville.
He and his supporters claim the Perot faction of the Reformers have systematically tried to replace anyone who disagrees with them.
So it will be up to judge Norman K. Moon to interpret the party's constitution and decide whether it's Gargan or Pat Choate who's in control.
Choate says if he wins, it's on to victory in November.
[SOT 10:15:38]

((CHOATE: WE NEED TO HAVE THE PARTY TOGETHER. IF THE DECISION THAT WE ASK FOR IS AFFIRMED, WE'LL HAVE 50 STATES AND THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, AND WE'LL MOVE FORWARD AGGRESSIVELY TO WIN THE PRESIDENCY AND WE CAN DO THAT.))
[RUNS= 14]
[OUT Q=can do that.]

But that would have to be done without Gargan and his supporters.
If they lose here in federal court, Gargan says there's no going back to the Reform Party... and they may be looking at a FOURTH party alternative.
[SOT 15:22:16]

((JACK GARGAN: WE WILL THEN HAVE TO DETERMINE OUR OPTIONS ON WHETHER TO START A NEW PARTY OR GET INVOLVED IN THE BETTER GOVERNMENT MOVEMENT IN SOME OTHER VENUE, OR JUST RETIRE. I HAVE NO INTENTION OF RETIRING.))
