Clifton Burford says several shots were fired -- one bullet hitting his close friend 24 year-old James Wesley Franklin, Junior in the chest -- and others striking a gutter and the roof at Burford's home on 7th Street in Madison Heights.
Burford says it sounded like more than one gun.

Burford says he and his friends were not involved in that fight -- but they did have an on-going beef with some of the other boys at the house.
Burford's mother believes its a racial issue because the shooter was white and the victim was black.

Plans to build a youth center in memory of Tara Rose Munsey took a step forward today.

The meeting was held to examine the issues facing teens and interest in creating a youth center.
The Radford Office on Youth and Munsey family hope to establish a place for young people in Tara Rose's memory.
The Radford High school student was shot and killed, earlier this year.

New York City's police department is coming under fire AGAIN for killing two unarmed civilians.

Last night, two undercover narcotics officers opened fire when they were threatened by a group of five men holding what looked like handguns. The guns turned out to be fakes, wrapped in electrical tape to make them look real. It was just last month an officer shot and killed an unarmed black man.

Three people were killed today when a 12 story apartment building caught fire.

This month-- Virginia's General Assembly approved a law that shields tobacco companies operating in the state from having to post a multi-BILLION dollar bond in a Florida smoking lawsuit.
Now North Carolina's Governor has called a special emergency session of the state's legislature to enact the same law.
Virginia lawmakers believed the bond could cost tobacco jobs, especially at the world's largest Marlboro plant, south of Richmond.

U-S Senator Chuck Robb wants to give minimum wage workers another pay raise.

Republican George Allen favors the increase too.

Virginia Tech and the University of Virginia are teaming up in a bid to operate a regional center for cultural studies.
It would be one of ten centers that focuses on preserving and promoting the history of their regions.
The two schools and the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities will compete together for a federal grant.
The center would be based in Charlottesville.

"Lulu" the camel gave birth three days ago.
The baby doesn't seem to mind folks watching ... like most newborns, he just wants to eat and take a nap.
This little one doesn't have a name yet .. for now he's being called "three day old camel".
And talk about a big baby .. this one weighs in at 95-pounds right now, and will be nearly a ton when it's full grown.

U-V-A held its first spring scrimmage today. Tailback Tyree Foreman scored three touchdowns on short runs to highlight the scrimmage.

Mark Martin was strong down the stretch and he picked up his fourth win in five Busch starts today winning the Albertsons 300 at the Texas Motor Speedway.
Martin's win was the 44-th in the Busch Series and his third at Texas Motor Speedway.
The race was delayed 4 hours due to rain.
