In a recent letter to Radford's Mayor, Intermet C-E-O John Doddridge writes:

Radford Council members say that Intermet has made NO commitment to reconstruct the plant, destroyed in a March 5th explosion.
But Intermet submitted permit applications late last week with the Department of Environmental Quality that would help clear the way toward rebuilding.

Roanoke County officials say any plans to charge for ambulance service are "on the shelf," for now.
Last month, a majority of the Supervisors said they couldn't support the idea unless the county's volunteer rescue squads approved.
Last night, County Administrator Elmer Hodge confirmed that the plan will NOT be part of next year's budget.
The board also heard a request for ten new paid positions at Mount Pleasant and Back Creek, two Fire and E-M-S stations where volunteers are not available during the day.

Reed says he's the player being pushed on the videotape.

A Wytheville man has pleaded guilty to beating another man to death.

23-year-old Jason Wolfe entered the plea in Wythe County Circuit Court.
He was arrested in August and charged with the first-degree murder of 24-year-old Michael Alderman.
Police say Wolfe killed Alderman with several blows to the head after catching him sleeping in bed with his wife.


Wolfe is scheduled to be sentenced in June.
He could receive 20 years to life in prison.

As the Columbine anniversary approaches, White House aides say it's not likely Congress will pass new gun laws by April 20th.
Yesterday, the House passed a Republican bill providing cash for states which slap minimum five-year sentences on gun criminals. But the White House calls that a ``cruel political trick'' designed to disguise congressional inaction.

CNN/Sports Illustrated aired a videotape last night showing Indiana basketball head coach Bobby Knight apparently grabbing a player by the neck.
The tape is another piece in the puzzle in the case of former Indiana player Neil Reed verses the legendary bombastic coach.
In March, CNN and Sports Illustrated reported Reed's allegation that Knight choked him during a 19-97 practice.
