Governor Jim Gilmore has won a permanent funding stream for road building projects.
But he was thwarted today outright on two issues that hit Southside and Southwest Virginia.

Farmers wanted it, business owners wanted it to protect them from lawsuits.
The Governor vetoed it, saying they illegal aliens should have NO legal status.
His veto was overturned by both chambers today.
The second issue is the final piece in the relief puzzle for laid off textile workers.

Radford University and the New River Health District say about 150 students who attended a Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity party are at risk for meningitis.
The third case of the bacterial infection was diagnosed in a 19 year old male freshman who is a Phi Kap member -- he's hospitalized in stable condition.

Right on the heels of Monday's flash flooding in Roanoke, Project Impact coordinators held a workshop this morning for area businesses on severe weather safety.

National Weather Service meteorologist Mike Emlaw briefed the audience on the dangers of driving through flooded roadways which is Virginia's number one weather killer.
Project Impact is a nationwide initiative to help localities deal with a wide variety of natural disasters.
