The 16 year old was arrested in the basement of a D-C home and taken in tonight- charged with last night's shooting at the National Zoo.
Witnesses say the teen opened fire at the crowded zoo after a fight between two groups of kids.

The gunfire erupted at closing time last night leaving seven children wounded- one eleven year old that police reported as brain dead- is said to be responding to treatment.
That boy is the most critically hurt of the injured.

The N-A-A-C-P says it wants to meet with Governor Gilmore to discuss his Confederate History Month proclamation and other issues.
But, they say, Gilmore hasn't responded.
A national boycott, like the one against South Carolina, would require approval by the national arm of the N-A-A-C-P.

The police and fire departments are also getting a piece of the pie. The police department is requesting School Resource Officers to be located in each of the five middle schools. The county plans to apply for a grant or will move its D.A.R.E officers into those positions.
The fire department hopes to lease two pumpers and two ladder trucks for it's departments in the county. More than 600 thousand dollars is being put toward replacing two of the vehicles.

But only one in ten is an officer.

Two Bedford County women are headed to prison for bilking a pair of elderly sisters out of their life savings.

67-year old Dorothy Saunders and 58-year old Thelma Mae Barger were each given 37-month sentences today in Lynchburg's federal court.
The pair took more than 300-thousand dollars from the sisters and used it to build this 12- thousand square foot mansion in Huddleston.
Saunders' attorney argued for a lesser sentence, citing her wide variety of ailments.. but the prosecution didn't buy it.

Volvo announced today that it's merging with Renault and Mack Trucks.
Volvo will take over Mack plants in Pennsylvania, Maryland and South Carolina.
Analysts say the move secures the company's future... but that the 23-hundred workers in Volvo's Dublin plant may NOT feel an impact.
Volvo's president says it's too soon to know how the merger will affect employment.

Plans call for overhauling the station and building a firefighters museum and industrial complex nearby.

In other Express notes, Duane Harmer, who has played five seasons with the Express and is fifth all time in career points with 171 was sent to Greensboro yesterday afternoon. He does have a chance to sign with the AHL Providence Bruins for next season, Harmer is playing for Providence in the playoffs at this time.
Kris Cantu also was sent to Greensboro yesterday. In his three season in Roanoke, the left winger scored 20 game winning goals. Both were all-star performers.
