Winn-Dixie announced last week they will be closing one hundred stores to save money.
One of those is in Roanoke County.

A lack of security is being cited in two multi-million dollar lawsuits against Lynchburg's Centra Health Corporation.

Melanie Curnutte (ker-NOOT) filed a suit against Centra Health today.
It alleges negligence by Lynchburg General Hospital's security department when she was attacked at knifepoint outside the emergency room two years ago.
Curnutte claims to have suffered severe physical and emotional injuries, as well as post-traumatic stress disorder from the attack by John Major Haygood, who was sentenced to a three-year prison term last February.
Curnutte is suing Centra Health for 500-thousand dollars in compensatory damages and one million dollars in punitive damages.

After just finishing up the greatest season in school history there is a lot of anticipation concerning what the year 2000 will bring in Blacksburg.
But there also is a little anxiety concerning keeping people well.
All-American Michael Vick has been off limits all spring long, and he will remain so today. No player will be allowed to hit him.
But there will be plenty of hitting elsewhere even though there's always a chance someone will get hurt.

Today's game will consist of four eight minute quarters. Defensive coordinator Bud Foster will coach the white team, while the Maroon team will be in the hands of offensive coordinator Ricky Bustle.

The tourism boycott of the state of South Carolina because of the flap over the confederate flag could cost the Palmetto state big bucks on the hardwood.
South Carolina is scheduled to host first and second round games in the 2002 NCAA men's basketball tournament. But today the NCAA said if the flag isn't removed from the statehouse dome by August 11th of this summer - it will find another place to host the games.

The second day of the 35th annual Cosmopolitan track meet went off today in Salem despite the rain.

((The Cosmo has become the biggest scholastic track meet in Southwest Virginia sanctioned by the Virginia High School league.
Cosmo 2000 includes athletes from 29 area schools with a total of nearly 11-hundred athletes.
And there's a waiting list of teams who are eager to participate.))

((The meet is somewhat of a stepping stone as the athletes prepare for their district and regional meets.
The sport continues to grow in the valley and the competition gets a little tougher each and every year.
