American Electric Power wants to build the 765-thousand-volt line to meet higher demand for electricity. Critics contend that A-E-P doesn't need the line. But the utility says demand in the region has climbed 141 percent since the last major power line was built in 1973 and that blackouts are likely without it.

Andy Nicely, who's running as a write- in candidate, is fighting for the right to vote in Roanoke County.
Without that right-- he could NOT be elected to office.
The election board says Nicely is NOT a Vinton resident-- that his property is actually in Roanoke City.
But Nicely argues that a good portion of his property is in the town and that he's been a registered voter in the county for six years.
A hearing will be held at eleven this morning in Roanoke County Circuit Court.
