A Bedford man is behind bars tonight following a four hour stand-off with authorites.

It happened around 9-30 last night at this home on Woodside Avenue.
Authorities say it started when 25 year old Damon Andrews threatened officers with a shotgun -- after they confronted him about a disturbance at another house in the neighborhood.
That's when officers called for back-up.
Tactical teams surrounded the home -- while negotiators attempted to talk to Andrews.
It ended when Andrews fled from the back of the house -- where he was confronted by authorities.

Andrews was not shot -- but he was taken to the hospital for minor injuries, where he was treated and taken to jail.

He now faces several charges... including attempting to kill a law enforcement officer.

A shooting in Galax has left one man dead.
It happened on North Main Street around 10 o'clock last night.
36 year old Thomas Turcios suffered a gun shot wound and died early this morning.
Police have arrested 32 year old Arnulfo Quintero of East Webster Street.
He's charged him with first degree murder.
Quintero is being held at the New River Regional Jail in Dublin without bond.

Besides safety locks on guns, the Million Mom March is an effort to ask Congress for [take pre-pro] all handgun owners to be licensed and be required to register their weapon. A sensible "cooling off" period and extensive background checks for any individual who wants to purchase a weapon. Limit purchases of handguns to one per month. This law is already on the books in Virginia. And finally requiring all officers of the law to assume a no nonsense approach in enforcing existing gun laws.

Some of the best collegiate tennis players took the court in Blacksburg today as Virginia Tech hosted NCAA first and second round matches.
