What started as a disturbance call to a home in Bedford City last night turned into a four hour stand-off with authorities.

It started around 9-30 last night at this house on Woodside Avenue.
Authorities say 25 year old Damon Andrews of Bedford barricade himself inside the home of a friend threatening to shoot authorities and himself.
Officials say it all started when an officer confronted Andrews about a disturbance at another residence in the neighborhood -- that's when Andrews threatened him with a gun -- the officer left and called for back up.
The stand-off ended after authorities surrounded the house -- and Andrews confronted them once again with a gun.

The Petty family and the NASCAR community has suffered another loss.
Up and coming driving star Adam Petty was killed in a wreck in preparation for today's Busch Grand National event.

The 19 year old's Busch Grand National car crashed into the outside wall during practice at Loudon, New Hampshire. Rescue workers had to cut Adam out of the car by removing the roof. He was then airlifted to a nearby hospital where he was soon pronounced dead of head trauma.

Earlier this week, Adam was in Charlotte testing during an open practice session for the upcoming events at the Lowe's Motor Speedway. He was excited about having the opportunity to race against his dad, Kyle, in the Coca-Cola 600 on Memorial Day weekend.

The nuclear weapons lab in Los Alamos, New Mexico, will resume limited operations Monday.
The plant has been shutdown for a week by a wildfire.

Lab director John Browne says the staff reporting for work will be planning for a phased reopening of the facility.

Officials say the lab appears out of danger, and that all of the facility's major buildings are unscathed.
But the fire is far from contained. The local fire chief says he's confident it no longer poses a threat to homes.


The fire has destroyed 260 homes, while charring some 33-thousand acres.

Safety problems led to last year's fatal fire at the International Paper Company in Stuart.
That's according to a new report from the state.

A report this week from the state Occupational Safety and Health office found three violations...two serious and one willful.

The one-room schoolhouse took a ride through the city to its new home at the Glencoe Museum.
Getting there took nearly four hours and a lot of maneuvering...
Workers tore down tree limbs and hoisted up power lines to get it across town in one piece.
Museum officials want to reconstruct the run-down building to show children what school was like in the 1800s.
The museum hopes to have it restored by September, with the help of donations.
