It's been nearly five months since the murder of a 16-year-old Radford girl and nearly four since the arrest of a suspect.
Just tonight, court documents were unsealed that shed new light on what led authorities to arrest Jeffrey Allen Thomas.

Keith, up until now, authorities have been tight-lipped about the evidence in this high-profile murder case.
But these search warrants help explain what may have linked Jeffrey Allen Thomas to the murder.
(-------------)
[VO-NAT]
[IN Q=One key piece]

One piece of evidence that's never come out before is that shell casings recovered from the crime scene were fired from a 22-caliber Marlin rifle that a friend said he loaned to Jeff Thomas.
Thomas was arrested and charged with capital murder back in February.
Prior to the arrest, investigators searched his car.
[SUPER=03-Pulaski Co./February;]

The search warrants indicate they also took samples of his blood, head hair, pubic hair and saliva.
Investigators also took his sneakers, to see if they matched footprints left at the crime scene, where Tara Munsey was discovered, shot in the head and body.

Of course, we'll be able to hear much more of the evidence against Jeff Thomas at his preliminary hearing.

For Virginia, that means road building money-- at a time politicians say we're in a crisis.
For the Roanoke area, something's got to give.
Pollution levels can't increase, at a time when one interstate will be widened and another could be routed through town.
So the state is right now meeting with the worst air offenders, warning that the E-P-A rules focus on new industry and new roads.
But the real problem causers are:

The American Lung Association took the E-P-A levels, and gave every region of Virginia an "F" in a new study.
Except for Wythe County, which got a "D."
The state has a stick-- federal funding-- but also a carrot for localities.
[SOT 14:18:38]

((BILL HAYDEN/DEPT. OF ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY: THE WHOLE QUESTION OF OZONE POLLUTION POTENTIALLY AFFECTS A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE RESPIRATORY OR OTHER HEALTH ISSUES. SO THAT'S ONE REASON-- WE REALLY DO WANT TO IMPROVE AIR QUALITY, AND THAT'S ONE OF THE BIGGEST CARROTS WE HAVE.)) [RUNS:15]
