A tough decision for Botetourt County School Board members tonight -- what to cut from the budget.
The school board did not get all the money it requested.
And with a budget shortfall of almost 600-thousand dollars board members say they were forced to choose between opening the new school this year or giving teachers raises.

It was a close vote but in the end the school board kept its promise to teachers.
Even a last minute letter from the Board of Supervisors -- proposing to give more money to open the new school -- did not change the outcome.
