Botetourt County supervisors have buckled in the name of education. They're offering the school board an extra 257-thousand-dollars -- as long as it's spent to open a new school.

It looked like Greenfield Elementary School might not open next year. Supervisors gave the school board only enough money to raise teachers' pay OR open Greenfield. The school board sided with teachers.

A Martinsville man died early this morning and a 16 year old is in custody in connection with the shooting.
This is the second murder at the Rivermont Apartments in Martinsville since the beginning of April.

Investigators in Wythe County are still trying to piece together how a squabble between a landlord and his tenant turned fatal.
Authorities were supposed to talk with the 65-year-old landlord, James Compton, today... but he's still in the hospital with a concussion.

They say yesterday, Compton, a former school principal, shot 27-year-old Darren Womack amid a struggle in the front yard.
Autopsy results today indicate that Womack died of gunshot wounds to the head and chest.
Compton's attorney says he had been trying to evict his tenant for some time and had come to the house to check on his cattle.
No charges have been filed.
