A 44 year old Martinsville man is dead and a 16 year old is charged in connection with the murder.
Officers found William Brady Newbill lying outside the Rivermont Apartments with a gunshot wound early this morning.
Martinsville authorities have not given out any information about the circumstances of the murder.
The teenager is being held at a juvenile detention facility in Danville, and is charged with first degree murder.


This is the second murder at the apartment complex in two months.

A dispute between a landlord and his tenant lead to a fatal shooting in Wythe County.

It happened shortly after one yesterday, outside a house just off Reed Creek Drive near Draper.
Authorities say the 65-year-old landlord, James Compton, shot and killed 27-year-old Darren Christopher Womack after a brief but violent fight.
Deputies say Compton had been severely beaten in the head and chest.
He was flown to Bristol Regional Medical Center.
The hospital will NOT release information on his condition.
Sources say the two men had been involved in an ongoing dispute and that Compton had asked Womack to leave his house.
Deputies are investigating whether Compton will be charged in the shooting.

An explosion at a Louisiana fertilizer plant last night killed one person and injured 11 others.

The blast happened at a plant just west of New Orleans.
Its impact was felt for miles around.
Officials say the explosion at C-F Industries occurred during routine maintenance on an empty storage tank late last night.
They say the blast started a fire.
But it was quickly doused.
The plant produces nitrogen-based fertilizer.
Authorities have not yet determined what caused the explosion.

Even though rebuilding is already underway, New River Castings cannot officially return to business until a permit is issued for emissions from the core making machines and sand handling equipment. Employees say the company has already made the changes they promised and issuing a permit will only keep the ball rolling.

Authorities say an Air Liberte plane carrying more than 100 Spanish soccer fans collided with the freight plane early this morning.
The airliner was preparing to fly back to Madrid after the European soccer cup final in Paris.
The crash killed the co- pilot instantly, but there were no other serious injuries.
Authorities plan to launch an investigation into how the collision occurred.

They're Asian Crested Porcupines.
A pair of them went on display this morning at Mill Mountain Zoo.
They're on loan from the Buffalo Zoo.
The porcupines are brother and sister, and each weighs about thirty pounds.
Those quills can get up to 12 inches long. (------------) The animals seemed to impress the kids who got a look at them today.
