Wildfires continued to burn in northern New Mexico, sending columns of white smoke spiraling into the sky, marking the miles long path of charred devastation.

The Pecos River Canyon is a popular destination for campers, hikers, and hunters. Cabin owners and vacationers evacuated.
The fire is burning towards the main watershed for Las Vegas, New Mexico, upping the urgency for control.

Another murder in Southside. Halifax County authorities think it's the result of a domestic dispute.
56-year old Henry Lionel Link of South Boston was shot to death.
His wife Mary Link called deputies and stated someone had been shot and she needed a deputy.
That's when officers found Link dead in his home.
Authorities seized several firearms. Charges are pending.

7 years ago Jacob Beard was sentenced to life in prison for the shooting deaths of two hitchhikers on their way to a Rainbow Family Gathering in Pocahontas County.
But yesterday a West Virginia jury found Beard INNOCENT.
He was released from jail last year after a death row inmate in Missouri confessed to killing Vicki Durian and Nancy Santomero.

A Danville man has been found guilty of using underage girls in pornographic material.

25-year old Roger Donovan Freeman faced eight different counts including child pornography, sodomy and statutory rape of a 14-year old girl.
The defendant pled not guilty to those charges during his trial.
Prosecutors entered about two dozen photographs that included Freeman and two minors.
Some of them were nude pictures of the defendant in different acts.
Shortly after closing arguments, Judge James Ingram convicted Freeman.
His sentencing is scheduled for June 29th.

An Albemarle County official says 40-year-old Terry Grasty was trapped in his burning Dollar-General rig after another truck rear-ended him at an intersection.

An accused serial killer in Washington has pleaded innocent to the fatal shootings of eight women.

Robert Lee Yates, Junior entered the pleas to eight counts of first- degree murder-- stemming from the killings of Spokane prostitutes in 19-97 and 19-98.

He's been serving time in the county jail since his arrest April 18th.

The American Civil Liberties Union has joined a Roanoke case challenging Virginia's centuries-old sodomy law.
The ACLU says if the sodomy law is not struck down by Virginia's Court of Appeals, it should at least NOT apply to private consensual sex between adults.
The ACLU has filed a friend-of-the court brief in the case of a group of defendants arrested in Wasena park.
Virginia's sodomy statute prohibits oral and anal sex.

An outbreak of the shigellosis bacterial infection has hit the Roanoke and Bedford areas, affecting 51 people since May tenth.
Shigellosis strikes the intestinal tract and can cause severe diarrhea, fever and vomiting. Other symptoms include headaches and abdominal cramps. The disease is usually spread by children who don't wash their hands properly after using the bathroom. Health officials in the area say no food handlers have been affected so far.

HE CLAIMS IN A LAWSUIT THAT A SHERIFF'S DEPUTY'S BULLET KILLED HIS SON.
BUT THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE SAYS THE MISSING GUN HAS BEEN ACCOUNTED FOR. IT WAS A SHOTGUN FIRED BY A LAKEWOOD SWAT OFFICER.
THAT DEPARTMENT SAYS IT WAS FIRED FOUR TIMES AT TWO DIFFERENT DOOR LOCKS AT THE SCHOOL.
THE OFFICER GAVE THAT INFORMATION THE DAY OF THE SHOOTING BUT WAS NOT ASKED TO TURN OVER HIS WEAPON.
TWO SHELLS WERE UNACCOUNTED FOR DURING THE CBI LAB TESTING AND IT WAS AUGUST 9TH THE OFFICER TURNED IN HIS SHOTGUN..MORE THAN 3 MONTHS AFTER THE SHOOTING.
THE BALLISTICS REPORT ALSO NOTES TWO ENVELOPES THAT WERE LISTED AS CONTAINING EVIDENCE BUT CAME TO THE CBI EMPTY.

A missing Pittsylvania County man who was last seen floating away on a cooler on the James River has been found.

The body 52 year old Benny Krantz of Hurt was found on the beach near Tarr Bay about a half mile east of Benjamin Harrison Bridge on the James River. People walking by found him around 5 o'clock yesterday.
Authorities had a hard time finding Krantz because of poor weather conditions and strong tides. Krantz's body has been taken to the medical examiners office in Richmond.

Vinton police are continuing to question people in connection with the drowning death of a toddler.

Two year old Hailey Wilson was being cared for by a baby-sitter when she drowned in the woman's pool Tuesday morning.
Police say the caretaker, Leni (Whitt-meyer) Whitmire, discovered the child and attempted C-P-R.
Investigators say they're continuing to conduct interviews in hopes of figuring out how the child wandered off and got past a secured gate leading to the pool.

Investigators say Whitmire was caring for six children and was NOT licensed to do so by the state.
Police say they won't decide if charges will be filed until they consult with the Commonwealth's attorney once their investigation is complete.

Kroger is expanding in Virginia.
It's purchasing 20 Hannaford supermarkets in the Richmond and Tidewater areas.
Kroger currently operates 44 stores in Virginia. They will become part of the Mid-Atlantic division, based in Roanoke.

Halifax County authorities are investigating a murder. They think it's the result of a domestic dispute.
56-year old Henry Lionel Link of South Boston was shot to death.
His wife Mary Link called deputies and stated someone had been shot and she needed a deputy. Charges are pending.

The man convicted of The Rainbow Family murders that happened two decades ago has been acquitted.
7 years ago Jacob Beard was sentenced to life in prison for the shooting deaths of two hitchhikers on their way to a Rainbow Family Gathering in Pocahontas County.
But yesterday a West Virginia jury found Beard INNOCENT.

A Danville man has been found guilty of using underage girls in pornographic material.
25-year old Roger Donovan Freeman faced eight different counts including child pornography, sodomy and statutory rape of a 14-year old girl.
His sentencing is scheduled for June 29th.
